Town Finance Director To Step Down In April

Town Finance Director To Step Down In April

The Town of Nantucket will soon begin a search for a new chief financial officer following the announcement that Finance Director Irene Dillon will step down from her role in mid-April. Dillon, who has served in the position since 2021, submitted her formal letter of resignation to Town Manager Libby Gibson this week.

Her departure marks a significant transition for the island's municipal government, as the Finance Director oversees all critical aspects of the town's fiscal health. The responsibilities of the office include budget preparation, financial reporting, treasury operations, and the management of the town's debt and investments. Dillon played a central role in crafting the municipality's annual budgets, documents that outline the spending for essential public services across the community.

Town officials have confirmed that the process to find a successor will begin immediately. The goal is to ensure a smooth handover of duties and maintain continuity in the town's financial operations. The select board and town manager will be tasked with appointing a qualified candidate to fill this pivotal position, which requires approval from the state’s Department of Revenue. Dillon’s specific plans following her exit from town government have not been publicly disclosed.
