RLJ Lodging Trust turned in a second-quarter performance that topped its internal projections, with the company pointing to steady gains across its city-center hotel portfolio. President and Chief Executive Officer Leslie Hale said the results were lifted by a continued pickup in business travel and stronger spending by guests beyond just room charges.
The company, which focuses on urban and dense suburban markets, saw demand spread across multiple segments rather than relying on any single source. Hale noted that corporate clients are returning to the road with more consistency, and that has helped drive both occupancy and average daily rate. At the same time, guests are spending more on food and beverage and other on-site services, which adds to the bottom line.
Management said the quarter reflected the benefits of recent renovations and a repositioning strategy aimed at higher-end travelers. The company also highlighted that its asset management efforts are paying off, with several properties outperforming their local competitive sets.
Looking ahead, RLJ said it remains cautious about the broader economy but sees enough momentum to keep its full-year outlook intact. The leadership team stressed that they will continue to focus on rate discipline and operational efficiency, especially as group demand and midweek business travel show signs of further improvement. Executives also mentioned that they are monitoring supply trends in key markets, though new hotel openings remain limited in most of the cities where RLJ operates.
