Solana wants to be the Netflix of finance

Solana wants to be the Netflix of finance

Solana is making a big bet that it can become the single destination for all financial activity, and the person leading its product vision is drawing a direct line to how people consume entertainment today. Vibhu Norby, the chief product officer at the Solana Foundation, told a crowd at Stanford's blockchain event this week that the network wants to be the Netflix of finance. His point was simple: just as streaming killed the need for separate cable channels, Solana aims to remove the friction of juggling multiple apps, banks, and brokers for different financial tasks.

Norby argued that the current financial system is fragmented, with savings in one place, investments in another, and payments in yet another. He sees Solana as a unified layer where assets, trading, lending, and everyday spending can all happen in one interface. The pitch is not about building another trading app, but about creating a base layer so fast and cheap that developers can build consumer-friendly products that feel like using a modern app, not a bank portal.

The comparison to Netflix is intentional. Netflix did not invent television, but it changed how people access it. Norby believes Solana can do the same for money, making it invisible and instant. He acknowledged that the network still faces hurdles, including past outages and the need for simpler user experiences, but he insists the technical foundation is now solid enough for the next wave of adoption. If the vision holds, the future of finance might look less like a spreadsheet and more like a queue of shows you never have to leave.
